1 day workshop
Color Me Powder Coated
In this one day workshop with Ashley Buchanan, students will learn how to create a clean, durable, and colorful finish on jewelry and other small metal objects through an industrial process called powder coating. Throughout the day we will cover the basic methods of application, discuss the equipment needed to assemble a personal, powder coating set-up and if time permits, experiment with alternative powder coating processes.
Students are encouraged to bring finished works and lots of metal objects/samples to powder coat. This workshop will provide students with a practical and accessible finishing option that can easily be integrated into any studio practice. Come ready to work and play!
Basic metals skills are preferable but not necessary. The workshop will cover powder coating of metal, so please bring any metal objects you'd like to powder coat; finished projects, unfinished projects, samples, found objects, wire, sheet metal, etc. While we will be spraying and curing outdoors, every student should provide their own respirator or particulate mask to wear while powder coating.
There will be a variety of colors available for the workshop. If students are interested in working in a specific color, we can guide you where to order it and you can bring it with you to the workshop.
