7 Weeks
No class November 22 & 29, 2026
This fast-paced, comprehensive 7-week class is designed specifically for beginning students who want to learn the fundamentals of metalsmithing and jewelry making.
We’ll begin with the basics, including sawing, piercing, filing, and sanding. From there, students will explore a variety of surface embellishment techniques such as stamping, roll printing, hammer texturing, and more.
The class will also introduce cold connections, including rivets and jump rings, before moving into the exciting world of soldering. Students will learn how the soldering process works and create their own handmade bezel, then learn how to set a stone.
The skills you develop throughout the class will give you the freedom to decide how you want to showcase your bezel-set stone. We’ll explore possibilities including rings, pendants, earrings, and more, allowing you to begin developing your own creative style.
Studio & Materials
The studio is very well equipped with the tools and supplies you’ll need to get started. A limited amount of copper and brass sheet and wire will be provided for beginning students to use during class.
As we progress to bezel setting, sterling silver and fine silver bezel wire will be introduced. A limited amount will be available for purchase, and the studio also offers a selection of stones for sale.
If you’re interested in purchasing additional sterling silver or investing in your own tools, your instructor can provide a student code for a jewelry supplier and help you choose materials and tools that best support your individual goals.
Come ready to learn, experiment, and get your hands dirty while discovering the fundamentals of metalsmithing and creating jewelry of your own!
